When it comes to Simracing, the Fanatec GT DD Pro and the Thrustmaster T-GT II are top choices for Gran Turismo fans. Both steering wheels are linked to GT, and feature optimal rims and pedals for racing in Gran Turismo 7.

Another feature they have in common is their compatibility with PS5, PS4 and PC.

But which of these steering wheels offers the best functionality and the best value for money?

Our Verdict

In my opinion the decision is pretty easy, the Fanatec GT DD Pro is a better wheel than the Thrustmaster T-GT 2. For starters, Fanatec’s force feedback motor technology is direct drive while Thrustmaster’s is belt drive, this makes the Fanatec transmit the track information to the wheel much better.

The only drawback I put on the Fanatec is that the pedals do not have a clutch, you would have to buy the clutch pedal or another pedal board.

They are also very similar in price, so for me the choice is Fanatec GT DD Pro.

The most important differences are found in the motor, where the FFB of the Thrustmaster T-GT II is a belt + T-LIN motor while the Fanatec DD Pro is a direct drive that transmits the power directly to the hoop and is therefore much more precise, faster and stronger.

In addition the Fanatec DD Pro has a maximum force of 5 Nm amplibables to 8 NM with the boost kit while the Thrustasmter does not indicate what is its maximum force. Although we assume that it will have a similar force to the T300, so it will be about 4 Nm.

Here you can see an actual analysis of the strength of each flywheel base.

To begin with we will talk about the Thrustmaster T-GT II, which is an official Gran Turismo steering wheel that is ready to be plug and play, meaning that you can play perfectly without configuring anything just by connecting it.

Also the good thing is that it is the steering wheel used in GT7 Esports, so if you want to compete at the highest level is the best choice.

The force feedback comes in very fast and very direct when turning, it is quite aggressive and quite good, so it lets you know what is happening on the track. When the car drifts you feel like a vibration, it’s different from the Fanatec where you feel much more force, and you have to do more force to counter-steer.

What I don’t like about Thrustmaster are the pedals, the brake pedal spring makes a very unpleasant noise after a few weeks of use.

Fanatec is more realistic

In my point of view the Fanatec at the level of sensations and realism is one point above the Thrustmaster, it is more difficult to adapt at the beginning.

In my particular case I enjoy more with the Fanatec, plus the power it gives you is much greater than the T-GT 2.

Quality of construction

In this section I also like the Fanatec better, the quality of Fanatec components gives the feeling of more rigid and compact and therefore more durable.

The pedals also work better than the Thrustmaster ones, the only problem is that the GT DD Pro ones don’t have a clutch pedal, but it can be added for about 100€.

Flywheel hoops

As for the rings that come in these two packages, the buttons are quite similar and are pretty good. But I like the one on the Thrustmaster T-GT 2 a bit more because it has two rotaries while the Fanatec has a “rotary” but with 4 positions which for navigating the PS menus is a bit worse.

Fanatec DD Pro vs Thrustmaster TGT 2: Final Recommendation

Fanatec DD Pro vs Thrustmaster TGT 2? Our recommendation is to buy the Fanatec GT DD Pro, the FFB has more power, the pedals are better and it has a price 50€ lower.

In addition, this steering wheel can be used to play other games such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing or Formula 1 just by changing the rim.

The Thrustmaster T-GT 2 is also a good wheel, but in this case the Fanatec works quite better.

In case you decide to buy one or the other, it is important to choose well where to buy it. In the case of the Thrustmaster we would choose the Amazon website that offers a very good sales, warranty and return service. In addition you could read the opinion of all the users who have bought it.

If you opt for Fanatec, I regret to tell you that there are not many websites that sell these steering wheels, so you will have to go to the page Fanatec official website. But well I have bought in this page and I have not had problems. Do not panic if you see it in English, you can give the right mouse button and translate the site into Spanish.
