First of all is to analyze this comparison table. The biggest difference can be seen in the force of the steering wheel, the Logitech G29 has about 2-3 Nm of maximum force (it is approximate), while the Fanatec DD Pro is a beast that can reach up to 8Nm with the 180W boost kit (power supply).

And when you test both shuttlecocks the power is very noticeable. But it’s not just the force exerted by the base, but all the details of the track that are felt with much more force and precision. This makes the car much easier to recover when you lose control.

It also helps you reach the car’s limit without overdoing it.

Of course, the price difference between the two steering wheels is quite remarkable, the Logitech G29 costs 250 € while the Fanatec DD Pro is priced at about 699 €.

Conclusion Fun, good to start with More performance, key: pedals

It is clear that the Fanatec DD Pro is much better and the difference is abysmal. The feeling that a direct drive steering wheel gives you has nothing to do with a steering wheel with gears like the Logitech G29 or G923.

The Fanatec GT DD pro is very realistic, it’s like driving a real car and that makes you much faster on the track.

As for the platforms on which each steering wheel works, both are compatible with Playstation and PC, but in the case of the Logitech G29, it is also compatible with XBOX.

Of course, in the case of Logitech you have to select for which platform you want it before buying it. Since the Playstation steering wheel is not compatible with the XBOX steering wheel.

Here is a summary of the features:

    1. Torque:
      • DD Pro: 5 N m extendable up to 8Nm with boost kit.
      • G29: approximately 2.2 N m.
    2. Feedback
    3. Platforms:
      • GT DD Pro: PC, PS5 and PS4.
      • G29: PC, PS5 and PS4, XBOX One and 360.
    4. Price:
      • DD Pro: 699€.
      • G29: The price is 249€.

    Logitech G29

    Logitech G29 Steering Wheel
    Logitech G29 Steering Wheel

The Logitech G29 is a geared steering wheel with basic feedback force, but enough to enjoy. It comes with pedals included and, for its price, is a fantastic gateway to the world of simulation.

For years, this wheel accompanied me in hundreds of hours of racing in titles like Assetto Corsa, Gran Turismo and F1 24. Although over time you start to notice its limitations, it never stops being fun.

    Fanatec DD Pro

    Gran Turismo DD Pro
Fanatec DD Extreme vs Fanatec DD Pro Steering Wheels

Making the jump to the Fanatec GT DD Pro was like going from driving a street car to driving a race car. The direct drive feels incredibly precise, smooth and powerful. This wheel offers 8 Nm of torque, which is a brutal improvement over the G29.

The feeling of connection with the car is immediate. You can feel the kerbs, the bumps, the oversteer? all with a fidelity I’ve never experienced before.

Highlights of the Fanatec DD Pro

    • Powerful and natural force feedback.
    • Quiet and premium construction.
    • Customizable with the Fanatec ecosystem.
    • High precision when cornering and braking.

What you should keep in mind

    • It requires a firm cockpit to mount it (I use a Next Level Racing GTTrack).
    • It is more expensive and difficult to find.
    • The pedals are key: if you don’t improve them, you won’t get their full potential.

In comparison, the Fanatec GT DD Pro offers multiple options:

    • The basic package costs less than €700 and includes the flywheel base with 5 Nm of torque and two pedals (accelerator and brake) without load cell kit. Both the hoop and pedals are basic but ok if you don’t want to spend a lot. You can upgrade in the future.
    • The premium package would consist of adding the boost 180 to have 8Nm and Fanatec V3 pedals with load cell. In this case it would cost you 699€ + 149€ + 399€, a total of 1247€. A similar price to the Logitech.

In any case, Fanatec offers custom options to create your own package, making it much more versatile than the Logitech.

Track test: how much faster did the Fanatec DD Pro make me?

To answer this question objectively, I decided to do a direct test:

    • Circuit: Watkins Glen
    • Car: Toyota GR Supra in GT7
    • Setup: same seat, same monitor, I only changed the steering wheel and pedals.

    Results:

    • Logitech G29: best lap in 1:46.2
    • Fanatec DD Pro: fastest lap in 1:45.3, almost a second off the pace

The improvement was not only because of the steering wheel, but also because of the Load Cell pedals I used with the Fanatec V3. The consistency when braking and the precision when cornering make a big difference when racing against the clock.

Logitech G29 vs Fanatec DD Pro: FINAL CHOICE

Logitech G29 vs Fanatec DD Pro? I think it is clear that the Fanatec DD Pro is vastly better than the Logitech G29.

But this is not to say that the G29 is bad, just that it is geared to different pilots.

The Logitech G29 or G923 I highly recommend for novice simracers who are starting out and don’t know if they are going to take it seriously.

If you are a more advanced simracer and want to take the world of simracing seriously, you will want to buy a Direct drive wheel, and the Fanatec DD Pro is the best for Playstation.

However, if you play on PC you have more options like the Moza R5 or the Fanatec CSL DD.

    Where to Buy

In case you decide to buy one or the other, it is important to choose well where to buy it. In the case of the Logitech we would choose the Amazon website that offers a very good sales, warranty and return service. In addition you could read the opinion of all the users who have bought it.

If you opt for Fanatec, I regret to tell you that there are not many websites that sell these steering wheels, so you will have to go to the page Fanatec official website. But well I have bought in this page and I have not had problems. Do not panic if you see it in English, you can give the right mouse button and translate the site into Spanish.
