If you’re looking for a simracing steering wheel, chances are you’ve come across two options: the Moza R3 and the Logitech G923.

Having tested both the Logitech G923 and the Moza R3 in depth, I can say it with complete clarity: the Moza R3 is a better base for anyone looking to take simracing seriously in the medium to long term, even if it costs a bit more at the beginning. And I’m not saying this because of hype or “what’s new”, but for very specific and technical reasons that make a big difference when you’re behind the wheel for hours.

1️⃣ Moza R3 uses Direct Drive technology, which means that the force of the motor is transferred directly to the rim. In contrast, the Logitech G923 uses a gear system with its well-known True Force system.

2️⃣ The force feedback of the Moza R3 is stronger, with 3.9 Nm versus that of the G923 which feels softer, although it also works very well.

    Our Verdict

In our opinion, the Moza R3 is better than the Logitech G923. It is obvious, it has more power, better technology such as direct drive. In addition Moza has the possibility to change the rings while Logi does not.

But the Logitech 923 has many good things, such as clutch pedals that the Moza R3 also has but you have to add 50$ to the budget.

Another reason why I would choose the G923 would be because of the price, for the same price as the Moza R3 you can buy the G923 with shifter and clutch, while in Moza you have to pay for it separately.

In this section we will give you a summary of all the features:

    1. Torque:
      • G923: About 3 Nm.
      • R3: 3.9 N m.
    2. Feedback
      • G923: FFB by True Force brushed motor.
      • R3: Force feedback direct drive (DD).
    3. Platforms:
      • G923: PC, PS5 and PS4 and XBOX.
      • R3: PC and XBOX. (WARNING! For XBOX you have to buy this pack: Moza R3 XBOX)
    4. Price:
      • G923: 299$.
      • R3: The price of Moza R3 is 299$ for PC and 359$ if you want it compatible with XBOX.
    5. Pedals:
      • G923Pedals with accelerator, brake and clutch.
      • R3: 2 pedals without clutch.

    Outstanding Common Features:

    • Both: both include hoop, pedals and can be anchored in cockpits.

We recommend you to use it in a cockpit to have the best experience, you can see the best cockpits .

In terms of hoop quality, both are of good quality. The Moza R3 has PU ISF grips, made of synthetic polyurethane. While the Logitech G923 has a better finish, sure you’ve tried a Logi before and you know what I mean….

I can’t make a reference to the durability of the Moza R3 because I don’t know anyone who has used it for more than a year but I have friends who have had the Logitech G923 for more than 5 years and it works like the first day.

Although the truth is that in the Moza it is not such a big problem that the rim wears out, since you can buy a new one and exchange it or even improve it.

Obviously if you play on Playstation you can’t buy the Moza R3, if you want a direct drive you would have to go for the Fanatec GT DD Pro.

As for the quick release, the Moza system is spectacular, it works perfectly and the ring can be changed in a second. On the other hand, the G923 does not.

The G923 has that famous “notchiness” (jagged feeling) in the center of the turn due to its gear system. This can cause you to lose precision in soft cornering, counter-steering or in fast correction situations.

The Moza R3 is pure butter: the smoothness of the turn, the linearity of the force feedback, and the ability to feel the grip of the tires at the limit is another world. It’s not marketing, it’s physics. By eliminating gears and using a direct motor, everything feels more immediate, more real.

Force Feedback Technology: TrueForce vs Direct Drive?

Many mention the G923’s TrueForce as a breakthrough, and yes, it is an improvement over the old G29. But let’s not kid ourselves – TrueForce is a software technology that improves the vibration of the geared motor, not the actual force feedback. It’s still a geared, spring-centered base. That means that even if you feel more detail in certain supported games, the response will never be as accurate or as smooth as that of a direct-drive motor like the Moza R3.

The Moza R3, with its compact Direct Drive motor, gives you real continuous force, no backlash, no gearing, no lag. The torque is lower than on other DD docks, sure, but it still doubles the quality and fidelity of what Logitech offers.

    Compatibility and ecosystem

Yes, the G923 comes with a more robust shifter and footswitch in the basic package. That gives you an initial price advantage, and for casual use, it’s fine. But you’re buying a closed ecosystem: everything is soldered to the base. You can’t upgrade the pedals. You can’t change the steering wheel. You’re locked into Logitech.

Moza, on the other hand, allows you to grow. Although the R3 bundle comes with somewhat basic pedals (Moza SR-P Lite), these can easily be upgraded to a regular SR-P with load cell, add a USB shifter from another brand (like the TH8A or the SSH Thorn) and change the steering wheel rim later. It’s modular. It is free. It is upgradeable.

The G923’s steering wheel is comfortable but very plastic. The Moza R3 has a metal steering wheel, with quality finishes, Xbox-like touch buttons and magnetic paddles. The touch alone conveys the feeling of a premium product.

And yes, the brake pedal on the G923 has good resistance (albeit very artificial). But the SR-P Lite’s are no slouch, especially for beginners, and on top of that you can easily mount them in a cockpit.

    Price and Value for Money

Here comes the big surprise: currently, the Moza R3 costs 329$, which is a price never seen before for a steering wheel of these characteristics. The Logitech G923 is a little cheaper yes, but the quality leap is very big… I would not hesitate to buy the Moza R3.

If you can afford to spend a little more, it might be worth considering the Moza R5 which costs 100$ more, but has a force of 5.5 Nm instead of 3.9 Nm. This makes it an even more attractive option for those looking for more realism.

Moza R3 vs Logitech G923: Final Recommendation

Logitech G923 vs Moza R3? After comparing these two steering wheels, the conclusion is quite clear:

The G923 with shifter and clutch pedal for 340$ is an attractive package for someone who just wants to try it out. But that’s the most it’s going to give you. It has no growth output. You’re going to run short fast.

The R3, for 299$, gives you a base with much more future. You can start with the basics and then add a better pedal, a shifter of another brand, and even change the steering wheel.

If you want to try simracing and then forget about it, Logitech is good enough. But if you’re going to get hooked (and believe me, it happens), the Moza R3 is a much smarter investment. It prepares you for more demanding games, gives you realistic feelings from day one, and doesn’t force you to change everything when you want to upgrade a part.
