3. Thrustmaster T818
For anyone wondering if the Thrustmaster T818 works on the PS4, the answer is yes.
I played with the Thrustmaster T818 in Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2, including the TLCM pedals and TH8A shifter. Everything works fine.
But there are a few things to keep in mind:
- You will need a Drivehub device, as well as a Hori PS4 controller for the T818 to work. If people are interested, I can write a short tutorial.
- The game still recognizes the wheel as a T300. The force feedback is not as detailed as it should be, but it has a lot of force, you can tell it’s a direct drive wheel.
If you’ve always used Thrustmaster and don’t want to switch brands, the T818 is ideal for the best of the best.
Pros
✔️ Lots of power.
✔️ Durable Thrustmaster brand.
✔️ Quality components.
Cons
✔️ High price.
✔️ Requires Playstation 4 adapter.
4. Fanatec DD Pro: The cheapest direct drive for PS4
- 5 NM direct drive expandable with boost kit up to 8 NM.
- Fanatec CSL DD base.
- Special edition ring for Gran Turismo.
- Polyphony Digital advanced steering wheel.
- Compatible with PC, PS4 and PS5
- Includes pedals.
The Fanatec GT DD Pro wheel is the cheapest direct drive wheel for PS4. It is one of my favorites and the one I always recommend if you want to seriously compete in Simracing.
The Fanatec DD Pro has a direct drive motor that reaches up to 8Nm of force.
The price is around 600 € and includes hoop and pedals so you can start playing quickly. No additional configuration is needed, so just plug it in and enjoy.
It is the cheapest Playstation 4 Direct drive, but it has a lot of power. The strength is more than enough for anyone.

- Direct Drive Technology: The motor is mounted directly to the flywheel shaft, allowing instant and detailed force feedback.
- Maximum torque of 5 Nm (extendable to 8 Nm with Boost Kit 180): The standard version offers a maximum torque of 5 Nm, which can be increased to 8 Nm using the Boost Kit 180 (sold separately).

The Thrusmtaster T-GT 2 is ideal for playing Gran Turismo 7, in fact it is the wheel used by many of the ESports drivers, such as Coke Lopez. It is also the official GT7 steering wheel, so it is optimized to the maximum for that game.

✔️ Designed specifically for PlayStation 4 with official license.
✔️ Constant strength level.
Cons
✔️ Specific for Gran Turismo.
✔️ No direct drive.
6. Thrustmaster T598
The Thrustmaster T598 is the latest wheel to hit the market from Thrusmaster compatible with PS4. It was released in October 2024.
It has a maximum force of 5 Nm similar to the Fanatec GT DD Pro and has a very reduced price of around €495.
Although I have to say that the Fanatec GT DD Pro with 5 Nm has more power than the T598. And if you configure it with the 8Nm boost kit the difference is very big. The Fanatec transmits the information better.
From my point of view I would recommend the Fanatec, but it is true that it is more expensive. So if you don’t want to spend that much money, the T598 is a perfect choice.

- Detachable Sportcar steering wheel: With a 30 cm diameter, textured rubber grips and magnetic cams, it offers a sporty driving feel. Its lightweight design (811 g) improves force feedback response.
- Raceline LTE pedals: Constructed of metal, they feature H.E.A.R.T. magnetic sensors and allow for firmness adjustment via interchangeable springs. Can be upgraded with a third pedal with load cell (kit sold separately).
- Compatibility: Works natively with PS4, PS5 and PC. In addition, it is compatible with the Thrustmaster ecosystem, allowing customization with different hoops and accessories.
