The first thing that strikes you when you look at the table above is the price. I was not mistaken! The Cammus C5 costs only 329$!!!

This price makes the Cammus the cheapest direct drive steering wheel on the market in 2025. Nothing to do with the 589$ that the Fanatec CSL DD BMW costs at the moment.

As for the platforms on which each steering wheel works, the Fanatec has greater compatibility as it is compatible with XBOX and PC, while the Cammus C5 is only compatible with PC.

Neither steering wheel is compatible with Playstation, either PS4 or PS5.

Here is a summary of the features:

  1. Torque:
    • CSL DD: 5 N m extendable up to 8 Nm with boost kit.
    • C5: Servomotor integrated in the handwheel with 5 Nm of force with peaks up to 7 Nm.
  2. Feedback
  3. Pedals:
    • CSL DD: The Fanatec pedals are much better. You have more braking and acceleration precision.
    • C5: For my taste the pedals of the Cammus C5 have shortcomings, the travel is too long and this makes it can not be very accurate in braking. Although for this price it is not bad.
  4. Flywheel diameter:
    • CSL DD BMW: 30 cm diameter
    • C5: 28 cm diameter
  5. Platforms:
    • CSL DD: Compatible with XBOX and PC.
    • C5: Compatible only with PC.
  6. Price:
    • CSL DD BMW: The current price is 445€.
    • C5: The price of the Cammus C5 is around 301€.

Our Verdict

As you can imagine the Fanatec CSL DD is better than the Cammus C5. But don’t think there is that much difference. As for driving sensations, both steering wheels give very accurate road feedback and similar maximum force.

Although it should be noted that at some points the Cammus C5 has more force than the CSL DD as it reaches peaks of 7 Nm.

Outstanding Common Features:

  • Pedals: The pedals are similar in both packages, constructed of metal. Clutch pedal not included. Although the Cammus C5 ones are clearly worse (they cost 30€).

In the Cammus C5 vs CSL DD comparison it is also important to analyze the hoops that come with these packs.

The D-shaped steering wheel of the C5 is upholstered in leather and is 28 cm in diameter. It has a feel that conveys great quality, but the size of 28 cm seems very small to me.

The size of the hoop is a personal matter, it is not an inconvenience. What is a problem, at least for me, are the cams of the Cammus C5, they look like toys! They are very small and plastic, for me the worst thing about the steering wheel.

The Fanatec BMW rim measures 30 cm in diameter and has a smooth rubber coated rim.

Fanatec’s quick release (QR) steering wheel release is fine, whereas on the Cammus you can’t swap the steering wheel.

In terms of build quality, I think there is no doubt that the Fanatec is better, the feel of the paddles, the size of the steering wheel, …

The CAMMUS stands out for having more buttons, 3 of which are rotary and a greater integration of functions, such as the tachometer and odometer on the steering wheel. This gives a more sophisticated look than the three digit LED and RevStripe of the Fanatec.

Cammus C5 vs CSL DD Which one has better pedals?

C5 Cammus pedals

Fanatec CSL pedals
Fanatec CSL pedals

The Fanatec pedals are better than those of the Cammus C5. On the C5 they have a lot of travel and I have not been able to adapt well to braking and acceleration.

While Fanatec’s CSL pedals work perfectly.

Fanatec CSL DD pedals have an advantage over CAMMUS C5 pedals in terms of robustness and design. The arms of the pedals are longer and have a foam on the brake pedal, which gives a feeling of progression.

CAMMUS pedals are more basic, but have the advantage of connecting directly to the PC via USB-C, while Fanatec pedals need to be connected to their base.

Driving Sensations

The CAMMUS C5 stands out for its strength and precision capabilities. Even without using its maximum power, the C5 offers a heavier and more realistic feel compared to the Fanatec CSL DD.

Adjusting the CSL DD to try to match the strength resulted in a less natural and heavier feel.

In games such as Assetto Corsa Competizione and F1 24, the C5 enables a more intense and immersive driving experience, with greater clarity in tire grip feel and cornering precision.

Whereas the CSL DD, while smooth and pleasant, feels a little less strong.

Fanatec and Cammus bases

Fanatec CSL DD and CAMMUS C5 present different approaches in design. Fanatec follows a compact and functional structure, while CAMMUS opts for a unique design, eliminating unnecessary components and leaving only the engine and flywheel, which gives it a different appearance from the traditional black bases.

The C5 includes an external fan due to its lack of internal cooling system, which could be a disadvantage in terms of design, as the Fanatec does not present overheating problems.

Compatibility with different platforms

In terms of compatibility, the CSL DD offers the advantage of being Xbox compatible if the dedicated wheel is purchased, and there is a PlayStation compatible version in the GT DD Pro, although this increases the price. CAMMUS, at the moment, does not offer console compatibility.

One aspect where Fanatec has the edge is in upgradeability. The CSL DD can be boosted up to 8 Nm with an optional power supply, and its ecosystem of accessories is very broad, allowing you to change the steering wheel or upgrade the pedals.

On the other hand, the C5 is a closed system with no options for power upgrades or flywheel changes.

Where to Buy Cammus C5 and Fanatec CSL DD

As for where to buy the steering wheel I recommend you to look at the official website of Cammus and Fanatec. These are the websites where they are cheaper.

Both Fanatec and Cammus have reliable websites and you don’t have to worry about anything if you buy it there. But if you want you can also buy the Cammus C5 on Amazon, although this option will be more expensive than if you buy it directly from Cammus.

Cammus C5 vs Fanatec CSL DD: Final Recommendation

Cammus C5 vs Fanatec CSL DD? Well I have to admit that the Cammus C5 has pleasantly surprised me, I didn’t expect it to be so good being so cheap.

Although I still prefer the Fanatec CSL DD with the 8 Nm boostkit, as it is much more versatile when it comes to upgrading the steering wheel or pedals and that is a very important plus for me.

But if you want to start simracing and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, the Cammus C5 is a spectacular option that you won’t regret.
