    Our Verdict

Obviously we like the Fanatec DD Extreme better, but if you are not an advanced simracer with the GT DD Pro and 8 Nm you have more than enough to go for 2-3 years. Of course, I would use the 8 Nm boost kit because the 5 Nm can be a bit short.

Now if you’ve had a direct drive steering wheel before, you’re probably better off with the Fanatec DD Extreme 15 Nm.

As for the platforms on which each steering wheel works, both are compatible with Playstation and PC.

The difference in force between the two flywheels is 7Nm, so the Fanatec GT DD Extreme is almost twice as much. In our opinion, unless you are competing at a professional level, the 8 Nm of the GT DD Pro is more than enough.

Now if you want the best of the best, you will have to buy the DD Extreme.

Here is a summary of the features:

    1. Torque:
      • DD Pro: 5 N m extendable up to 8Nm with boost kit.
      • DD Extreme: 15 N m.
    2. Feedback
      • DD Pro: Force feedback direct drive that transmits force directly to the steering wheel without gears.
      • DD Extreme: Force feedback DD.
    3. Platforms:
      • DD Pro: PC, PS5 and PS4.
      • DD Extreme: PC, PS5 and PS4.
    4. Price:
      • DD Pro: $699
      • DD Extreme: The price without pedals is 1499$.

The Fanatec DD Extreme steering wheel includes only the steering wheel base and the steering wheel, while the pedals are sold separately. Its price is 1299 $, but if we add the price of pedals to the height, as are the Fanatec V3, the price goes to 1624 $.

In comparison, the Fanatec GT DD Pro offers multiple options:

    • The basic package costs less than $700 and includes the flywheel base with 5 Nm of torque and two pedals (accelerator and brake) without load cell kit. Both the hoop and pedals are basic but ok if you don’t want to spend a lot. You can upgrade in the future.
    • The premium package would consist of adding the boost 180 to have 8Nm and Fanatec V3 pedals with load cell. In this case it would cost you 699$ + 149$ + 399$, a total of 1247$. A price closer to the DD Extreme.

In any case, Fanatec offers customized options to create your own package.

    Comparison of flywheel bases

    Fanatec Clubsport DD+
    Fanatec Clubsport DD+

The base of the Fanatec DD Extreme is the Clubsport DD+ and weighs about 10 kg so it is quite a bit heavier than the DD Pro, so you will need a good cockpit to support all the power it has. Of course, if you can afford it, the Fanatec Cockpit Rennsport is the best.

In contrast, the Fanatec GT DD Pro base is more compact, weighs 4.9 kg and has plastic on the front and back, with aluminum on the sides acting as a heat sink.

The most notable difference between the two bases is the size and weight. The Fanatec DD Extreme base is larger and can only be mounted on the desktop in a racing simulator. In comparison, the Fanatec base allows for more mounting options.

The Fanatec DD Pro base can be mounted on the table but the DD Extreme has to be mounted in a rigid cockpit as it has too much strength. Even mounting it in a folding cockpit may not be stable enough to support it.

Fanatec DD Extreme vs DD Pro hoops

As you can see the hoops are very similar but have small differences.

To begin with, the DD Extreme rim is round while the DD Pro has a “D” shape. This is not an important difference since for me both shapes are very comfortable to ride.

What I do think is important is the size of the rims, in the case of the DD Pro it is 28 cm in diameter, which I think is a bit small. Under my point of view I prefer 30 cm or 32 cm rims. But in any case the DD Pro handles very well.

The DD Extreme’s steering wheel is 30 cm, which I think is an ideal size.

In addition, it should also be noted that the DD Extreme has a much larger LCD screen and allows to have many more parameters of the car that in the case of DD Pro can not be displayed.

Fanatec V3 pedals vs CSL Pedals

    Fanatec CSL pedals
    Fanatec CSL pedals

If we compare the Fanatec V3 pedals and the CSL pedals, there is no possible comparison, the V3 are infinitely better.

So if you buy the Fanatec GT DD Pro, sooner or later we would recommend that you upgrade to the Clubsport V3 pedals.

To give you an idea, the CSL Pedals have a plastic cover and leave a little to be desired… If you are a beginner you can enjoy them for a couple of years and then buy better ones.

The Clubsport V3 has three pedals (clutch, load cell brake and accelerator). These pedals are made of steel and offer a solid feel. The brake pedal has a 90 kg load cell sensor and is height adjustable. They are really cool! The force exerted by the brake pedal is insane when set to maximum.

But it must be said that the pedals that come with the 699€ Fanatec DD Pro kit leave something to be desired. They are fine if you are a beginner, but it is the first thing I would change as soon as I could afford it.

    Testing and driving experience

Both steering wheels offer an excellent driving experience. The force feedback is very accurate, and the feel of corners, bumps and track conditions is remarkably detailed. If you are coming from older steering wheels, you will notice that the experience is much smoother and more detailed.

Fanatec’s 8 Nm of torque is sufficient for a realistic racing experience, while the DD Extreme, at 15 Nm, provides a much greater sense of power, but is too strong to use at full power. At least for me.

I usually use about 9-10 Nm and I think the steering is already very hard.

The good thing is that the maximum force can be adjusted on both flywheels, so if 15 Nm seems too much you can lower it to 8 Nm in the case of DD Extreme.

Here is another steering wheel option that is very interesting if you want to improve the kit. The CSL elite steering wheel Mclaren

Fanatec GT DD Pro vs DD Extreme: FINAL CHOICE

Fanatec GT DD Pro vs DD Extreme? Both steering wheels are excellent steering wheels for Playstation and PC.

However, the price of the GT DD Pro is very good, so perhaps if you are a beginner you may want to buy this one.

Only if you are a simracing professional will you get the most out of the Fanatec DD Extreme.

If you are a PC gamer, you might be interested in the Fanatec CSL DD which although it is not Playstation compatible, it is the same as the Fanatec GT DD Pro, it has the same 8 Nm base. Also the Fanatec CSL DD is cheaper than the GT DD Pro.

    Where to buy?

In case you decide to buy one or the other, it is important to choose well where to buy it. In any case, I regret to tell you that there are not many websites that sell these wheels, so you have to go to the page Fanatec official website.

But well I have shopped on this page and I have not had any problems. Don’t be scared if you see it in English, you can right click on it and translate it to Spanish.
