The Thrustmaster T598 is much better than a T300 or a Logitech G29 which are not direct drive. And the direct drive technology is the best for a simracing wheel, because it transmits the power directly from the base to the wheel, without gears, making driving much more realistic.

If you come from playing with a Thrustmaster T248 or a Logitech G923 you will notice an abysmal difference with either of these two steering wheels.

The best thing about the Thrustmaster T598 is its value for money. For 495€ you can buy a complete pack with base, steering wheel and pedals, ready to start playing.

While in the T818 you will have to scratch your pocket more and you will probably spend 799€ for the base and the SF1000 hoop and 100€ more if you buy some T3PA pedals for example. Although I advise you to buy the T-LCM pedals that have load cell and have much more precision.

Flywheel hoops

As for the Thrustmaster T818, you can buy the base alone for about 600€ or with the Formula 1 Ferrari SF1000 hoop that is a real blast. Of course if we compare the SF1000 hoop with the T598, there is no comparison possible, the SF1000 is much better.

In addition the SF1000 hoop has a large LCD display on which you can see parameters such as speed, revolutions, tire pressure, engine temperature. It is fully optimized for playing F1 25, or earlier versions of Formula 1.

In general, if you opt for the T598, it already comes with a 30 cm diameter rim, which provides more stability and better control, especially in tight curves.

Base design and connectivity

Both bases have the same Quick release system, so that the handwheels can be exchanged quickly without disconnecting the base.

Both bases have a metal finish that looks very high quality.

Basis and strength of force feedback

When talking about force feedback, the T598 stands out for its smoothness and precise response, while the T818 offers a stronger and more aggressive feel.

It is much more noticeable the strength in the T818, it is normal because it has twice the strength. In the T598 you can notice all the details perfectly and you can be almost as fast as with the T818.

When you play several hours on the T598 the base heats up, and it’s normal, if you play at maximum power, it goes to the limit. But this is not a problem.

However the base of the T818 does not heat up as I have usually played at 8Nm and not maxed out.

What I don’t like about the Thrustmaster T818 is the interface to change the parameters, it’s a bit obsolete, although it must be said that it works well and it’s not a problem.

As for noises, the T598 makes a small but barely imperceptible buzzing sound, I don’t notice it with headphones. The T818 does not sound at all, it is incredible.

Thrustmaster T598 vs T818? Our recommendation is to buy the Thrustmaster T818 if you can afford it, it works much better even though it is not direct drive.

Both flyers are excellent choices, but my recommendations are:
